hi! i'm dev, thanks for showing interest in my little guy! :) i've had khei for 10 years now, but have had them in ffxiv for a few of them. i am very autistic about the dragons in this game. and about estinien. but most of all, my own oc lol.

  dragonsong.   with the manipulation of wind aether, khei's voice and song become impossible to deny, their wish becoming your command. thankfully it isn't used... often. but watch out!
  otherworldly.   a being from a star long dead, using ancient magics to go between the form of a dragon and humanoid. and a portable (very small) dragon. khei's real body is mostly used just for travel, large sets of wings taking them wherever they please.

LORE : origin.

Far, far away across the sea of stars, Khei Ehsk hails from the Dragonstar, the original home of their kin. Nature flourished, and little conflict made it a time of peace. While Khei was the smallest of their clutch, what he lacked in physical power was compensated with advanced healing capabilities, both to heal themselves and others. Along with this, their Dragonsong rang beautifully, more powerful than most others.However, everything changed when the Omicrons touched down, seeking to decimate the dragons in their conquest to be the most powerful. This war raged on for centuries, wearing them down slowly but surely, near the end simply hanging on to the hope that it'll either end... or the mechanized horrors would end them instead.The departure of her dear friend Midgardsormr gave Khei the courage to follow his path. Leaving it all behind, leaving her kin behind to their fate, was the worst choice she had to make. But the hope of surviving, the hope of finding a new life, was Khei's final decision. She didn't have any eggs to bring along, as they've all rotted due to the Omicron's pollution.

And so they arrived to Etheirys in the First Umbral Era 12,000 years ago, considered the beginning of modern history. Since then, Khei became intrigued by mortals, choosing to walk among them and travel the world, wanting to learn all they could. And reveling in the 200 years of peace between man and dragon, they wished it would never end.But with the start of the Dragonsong War, Khei's fear and trauma took hold of him completely, being thrown into yet another war. Instead of taking any side, hiding away in Sohm Al seemed the better choice. Nidhogg pleaded that he would join the horde, only to be met with Khei's refusal. Though sometimes making visits to Tailfeather... it was mostly centuries of loneliness.

LORE : a realm reborn.

After Dalamud fell and brought an eternal winter upon Coerthas, a familiar shrouded figure did all they could to save survivors from freezing in the snow and ice, either bringing them to the gates of Ishgard, or to Dravania where the climate remained untouched. But as they say... you can't save everyone. The frostbitten and frozen bodies still haunt Khei to this day.Something caught their attention a few years down the line however. The newest Azure Dragoon stealing one of Nidhogg's eyes from the Holy See, intending to use it's power against the wyrm. A foolish plan... but one that intrigued Khei nonetheless. If it were possible, if it could be true, maybe there was a chance this thousand year war could end. And so did they stay out of sight as Estinien Wyrmblood tried and failed to get the Warrior of Light to join his quest for revenge.

But Nidhogg's eye proved too strong, a slip of the dragoon's judgement to call upon the eye's power to defeat the Warrior of Light in what seemed to be a final battle. A thousand years of rage drowned his senses, and it took all of Khei's self control to not reveal themselves and intervene. A dragon's emotions... no mortal could handle them.Estinien fell to the Warrior of Light, and in attempting an escape did he collapse in the snow due to his wounds some distance away. To see another fall because of Nidhogg, even if indirectly, was something Khei refused to let happen. With the dragoon on the verge of passing out due to blood loss, they finally came out of hiding to heal his wounds. By the time Estinien was coherent enough a few minutes later, Khei was already gone, and was left wondering who to thank for keeping him from joining Halone's halls.

LORE : heavensward.

A while later, Khei is trading their usual goods in Tailfeather, quick to notice the Warrior of Light and the others stepping foot in the settlement. Those who had the power to finally end this war. Faces he remembers, and two new ones... But happy to officially meet them all. Posing as a Dravanian scholar studying the ways of dragons, Khei's offer to lead the others through Sohm Al was met with doubt, then an unsure agreement. For how did he know the way through the dragon infested caverns? A question he couldn't give a straight answer for, but the offer was too good for the WoL and company to turn down.Even before the ascent, the dragon and a certain familiar dragoon were naturally drawn to each other, somehow. Opposites attract, or something of the sort. Khei's gentle nature allowed for Estinien's trust all too easily, and Estinien's fierceness and determination became something Khei admired. Over time they would spend more and more time together, love starting to bloom between the two over the months despite the circumstances. Estinien and Khei even tackled the Aery together, ensuring Nidhogg's fall.But everyone's trust in Khei fell apart when Hraesvelgr revealed what secret she'd been keeping all along: that she was a dragon. Her pleas rang out in the Churning Mists to not leave her behind, to still have trust, that they didn't want to keep it from everyone for so long. While the WoL and the rest agreed to let Khei stay with them, Estinien was hit the hardest. Opening his heart to someone, falling in love, only to find out she's what he hated the most. Now scorning her, deep in his own emotions, not even acknowledging Khei's existence. Of course this made her want to fall apart... But she had to stay with everyone. She had to see this war to the end.Fast forward to the Vault, they manage to work together enough to rescue Aymeric while the rest make their way to Thordan. A narrow escape for the Archbishop and almost losing a new knightly friend, still they carried on... Regaining the trust of most of their allies. Still however, Estinien remained conflicted.A harrowing journey to Azyz La. Ysayle makes an appearance once more, nearly sacrificing herself to allow everyone else safe passage, however Khei had other plans. With their endless fount of aether to give and their wings, our Lady was spared from the jaws of death. The area made Khei on edge, the technology almost like the Omicrons, seeing Tiamat once more after so long... a sore pain that never went away. But they had to continue. They all did. So many were depending on their victory...

With Thordan felled by the Warrior of Light, Khei was entrusted to take Nidhogg’s second eye from his blade, only to be asked to hand it over to Estinien instead. The one who deserved to finally rid the world of them, she was told, and couldn’t refuse the request… But it came with a cost. A slip of the dragoon’s vulnerability. Mind and heart at war with each other, conflicted with loving Khei and knowing she lied to him, made it all too easy for the wyrm to claim him. A swift hit while Khei tried to stop Nidhogg from taking her love, and he was able to make his escape, the last of Estinien’s will keeping her and the Warrior of Light safe from the wyrm’s rage. As much as she wanted to take chase, Khei had to make her escape with Midgardsormr and the Warrior as their surroundings began to crumble.Even still plagued with concern for Estinien, it was impossible to deny Aymeric’s request to help bridge the gap between Ishgard and Dravania. Khei acted as a representative of the Dravanians along with Vidofnir, and still does to this day. As difficult as it was, some tangible progress was made with the peace meeting between Aymeric and Vidofnir, announcing the age of dragon and man coming together once more… Something Khei had been dreaming of for the past thousand years. That all came crashing down with Nidhogg’s appearance, promising to see his revenge through the end, to see Ishgard fall. His final request for Khei to join his cause in exchange for
Estinien’s freedom was met with hesitant refusal. No, they would free him themselves. After gifting the Warrior of Light with one of their eyes, just in case they didn’t make it back, Khei took on their true draconic form and was hot on the chase through the skies, following the wyrm all the way back to the Aery.Lightning crackled through the sky as the fierce battle between the two dragons raged on for days, Khei trying to just survive while making endless attempts to grant Estinien his freedom. Almost succeeding at some points, the dragoon pleading for her to leave him, but Nidhogg quickly drowned him once more. But it only kept Khei fighting. Even battered and beaten, flesh and bones broken, did she still try to save the one she loved, Khei’s Dragonsong ringing out all that time… Useless in the end.The final chorus came to an end with Khei unable to stand, too worn down by Nidhogg, drained of energy without their other eye. Their remaining one would be the wyrm’s to claim, he said. That ancient power that would ensure his victory against Ishgard, against mankind, deserved to be in his hands. Using Estinien’s form to mock them for being in love with such a fool. And with one more of Nidhogg’s transformation into his true self, jaws opened around a weakened Khei, and shut with a snap. Their eye and flesh were his now. But was it Nidhogg’s rage, or Estinien’s possessive love?Khei’s eye would later become the sole reason Estinien survived Nidhogg’s possession, and those eyes wrested from his body. In the end, no one knew what happened to Khei, and no one knew their remaining eye rested with Estinien. The one given to the Warrior of Light seemed to disappear, however…

kin. is your character also a dragon? half dragon? somewhat related to a dragon? khei is more than happy to chat! they need more dragon friends... or enemies. either one. khei is usually respected by their kin, but not always.hunter. any dragon hunters, or any hunter looking to score big, look no further. while the dragonsong war has ended, those against the new laws have a hefty reward for khei's head...dravanian. khei spent most of the war near sohm al and anyx trine, but would frequent tailfeather for trading/attempts at socializing. if your character has lived/been there, they could've seen him before!

storyteller. more than likely would they be willing to share tales of dragons, so old that no one is left to remember them. and since history is passed down through song, it wouldn't be something soon forgotten.baked goods. khei LOVES giving out little treats/meals to anyone. if you're lucky, maybe your character will get some too! or they can just ask... this dragon will be more than happy to provide!

(in)famous. having accompanied estinien and gaius on the black rose mission, khei was accused of murdering emperor varis as well. garlean characters, do what you will with the information that most likely spread like wildfire.mr worldwide. they've spent years traveling the star! so many places and faces, it's entirely possible your character has seen them passing through anywhere at any time.savior. this is only if you want to touch on canon msq events, but it's no secret that khei joined the scions to save the world in the events of endwalker, their name said as if speaking of a hero. feel free to recognize them and say something about it!deepest fear. the fear of technology has a vice grip on khei, even more simple things causing discomfort. anything on the more advanced side will only remind them of the omicrons and that war, so they will freak out a little if something is forced upon them. with time though... maybe they can come around.
